The Parma Senior High

School Alumni Association

Our History

Founded in 1941 by “Red” Rees, Jerry Siegmyer, and Lee Bailey, The Parma Senior High School Alumni Association has been in continuous operation for over 70 years. In its infancy, the organization held dances to raise funds and to provide a venue for classmates to reconnect socially. Parma, Ohio, was one of the nation’s fastest growing communities in the 1950s and, as the suburb grew, two more high schools were built to accommodate the expanding student population. Initially, the alumni association tried to incorporate the three schools into one organization, but each school had its own identity, and, eventually, each school established its own alumni association.

In 1972, the superintendent of the school district granted approval to each alumni association to oversee the handling of class reunion monies. Each association became a 501c3 at the time and began to work more closely with graduating classes to plan reunions, establish guidelines, and form committees to facilitate individual reunions. The PSHAA encouraged class officers to conduct a ten-year reunion and reconvene on a five-year cycle thereafter. This tradition continues as we speak….

Today, the alumni association is strong, vibrant, and active. Every other year, we induct new honorees into our distinguished Hall of Fame. Each May, we provide thousands of dollars in the form of scholarships (paid for by an annual golf outing and generous benefactors) to graduating seniors who have at least one parent / guardian who have graduated from Parma Senior High. We present diligent, hard-working, community-minded alumni with the esteemed Bailey Bells award as a recognition for their hard work and service.

We set up hospitality tents at the Homecoming football games. We support school dances. We host a “Golden Redmen” Anniversary Celebration. We distribute a quarterly newsletter (The Tradition). We continually find new ways to promote PSH pride….

We recognize the truth that Parma High School has affected us all in different ways. Somewhere along our journeys, that building at 6285 W. 54th Street has become part of who we are. And so, the alumni association exists to encourage all of us graduates to live by the motto, “Once a Redmen, Always a Redmen.
